This gorgeous palette came out during my no buy in the summer, they had it listed as a permanent item so I didn’t feel rushed to buy it… and then I waited patiently for over 2 months for it to come back in stock. It was worth the wait. Modern Renaissance is my second ABH palette, the first being the beautiful Master Palette by Mario.
A present-day take on Renaissance colors, this eye palette features 14 shades that let you create stylish, day to night looks. From the earthy yellow and ultra-matte finish of Golden Ochre to Primavera’s shimmer gold with a metallic finish, this palette’s high-pigment shadows are crease and fade-resistant and are sure to bring modern elegance to your eye looks.
First, the packaging: It’s the same cardboard packaging as the Mario palette, but the outside is a super soft pink fabric (similar to the original naked palette) with rose gold embroidery and it gives it a real luxurious feel. It comes with a lightweight plastic double-ended brush which I haven’t used because it feels a bit scratchy.
As for the shadows themselves, the palette contains 14 x 0.02oz shadows in a mix of ultra-matte, metallic, and satin finishes (all free from parabens, sulfates, and phthalates).
Tempera (beige with an ultra-matte finish)
Golden Ochre (earthy yellow with an ultra-matte finish)
Vermeer (iridescent shell with a metallic finish)
Buon Fresco (antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish)
Antique Bronze (metallic sable with a satin finish)
Love Letter (raspberry with an ultra-matte finish)
Cyprus Umber (dark coffee with an ultra-matte finish)
Raw Sienna (neutral amber with an ultra-matte finish)
Burnt Orange (deep orange with an ultra-matte finish)
Primavera (shimmery gold with an ultra-matte finish)
Red Ochre (sienna with an ultra-matte finish)
Venetian Red (crimson with an ultra-matte finish)
Warm Taupe (earthy gray with an ultra-matte finish)
Realgar (brick with an ultra-matte finish)
I found that the pinks/reds were a bit rough and chalky when I was swatching them… but they apply and blend beautifully. This is probably the first palette where I think I’ve used every single shadow in a look before posting, so I have 3 different ones below. 🙂
The first look is with Tempera all over, a mix of Golden Ochre, Raw Sienna and Burnt Orange in my crease, Realgar and Red Ochre on the outer corner, Primavera all over the lid, and Warm Taupe and Cyprus Umber along my lower lash line.
The second look is with Tempera all over, Buon Fresco in my crease, a mix of Love Letter, Venetian Red, and a touch of Cyprus Umber in my outer corner and along my lower lash line, and Vermeer all over my lid.
The third look is Tempera all over, Warm Taupe in my crease, Cyprus Umber and a bit of Antique Bronze in the outer corner and on my lower lash line, and Buon Fresco on my lid with Vermeer on top.
If you can get your hands on this palette, I highly recommend it. It’s far more versatile than I had expected it to be and for $55.00 CAD it’s well worth the price!
