I decided to cancel Ipsy last month and start with a new subscription, and since Birchbox just came to Canada the timing was perfect! I wasn’t extremely excited about any of these products at first honestly… but the fact that there was no black eyeliner was an instant win in my books.
Whish – Three Wishes Body Butter – Pomegranate
From no-calorie cupcakes to pinch-free stilettos, we admit that we’re prone to wishful thinking. Another item near the top of our if-only-it-were-real list: a truly non-greasy body lotion. Much to our surprise, this decadent organic body butter fits the bill. It contains a trio of antioxidant-rich moisturizers that nourishes skin and wards off sun damage.
The lotion seems nice – it doesn’t have a scent to me, so I’m not sure if the other ‘flavours’ are the same. I think if I did I would like it more. It says it contains raspberry butter… I have no idea what that is but it sounds delicious.
Derma e Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic Scrub
Dead skin cells don’t just clog pores, they also dull your complexion and give skin an older appearance. No thanks! We’re all about aging gracefully, but that doesn’t mean we can’t work to slow it down a bit. Freshen up your face with this all-natural smoothing scrub. The gentle formula sloughs away dead cells and deep cleans pores for a younger, more radiant glow.
With it still being borderline winter here my skin is far from oily, so I haven’t tested this on my face. I did use it on my hands last night though and they felt pretty fantastic after.
Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo
At the end of a long day we could all use a fresh start—the same goes for our hair. When product buildup and styling stress leave your locks feeling dull, use Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo, subtly scented with white freesia, golden amber, and warm musk, to gently cleanse without stripping moisture or color.
I haven’t tried this yet – but reviews say it doesn’t lather and that seems weird to me for a shampoo. It’ll go in my ‘OMG I am in the shower and just realized I have no shampoo’ bin.
Cynthia Rowley Creamy Lip Stain in Heartthrob
Like bouncers at a nightclub, we have to be selective about allowing new beauty products into our already-overcrowded handbags. But this creamy lip stain is the rare product that cuts straight to the front of the line. Equal parts playful and polished, it offers the moisture and shine of a gloss, paired with the ultralong wear of a stain. These creamy shades were inspired by Cynthia Rowley’s spring makeup looks from New York Fashion Week, and the slender packaging features her signature gold foil design. So go ahead—let this product under the velvet rope.
Quite possibly the tiniest lip product sample I’ve ever received, so tiny I actually lost it after taking pictures… so no swatches, sorry!
Tocca Eau de Parfum – Florence
An old-world classic, this scent is the epitome of Parisian class and sophistication. Rich enough for a night on the town, yet elegant enough for every day, the fruity, floral scent has a musky quality that makes us nostalgic for a rainy day in old Paris.
I…. love this. My husband… does not.
Notes: Italian Bergamot, Grapefruit Leaves, Green Pear, Apple, Ivory Gardenia, Crushed Violet Petals, Jasmine, Tuberose, Blue Iris, Blonde Wood, White Musk.
Style: Sophisticated. Romantic. Feminine.
He says: It smells old.
So while none of the products really blew my mind, it was a nice change – and I am really looking forward to March… because I looked at spoilers, and I think there’s going to be a beauty blender in there!
