When I first signed up with Julep, it was almost all nail polish, now they have a wide range of makeup and skincare products which is great because I just haven’t been painting my nails as much this year. 90% of the time I am super happy with my choices and feel like they were worth the price… this was not one of those times.
I received the Julep Cheers to Five Years Mini Lipstick Trio in my Maven box so I paid less than the $32 CAD ($24 USD) pricetag. They value this trio at $54 CAD ($40 USD) which IMO is extremely overpriced as each mini lipstick has 0.07oz of product.
I don’t really enjoy math, but really wanted to see how this price compared to some of my most loved brands… I’m just going to do this part in CAD and hopefully it makes sense (feel free to correct me in the comments if I mathed wrong, I won’t be offended lol):
Julep Trio: $54 / 3 = $18 each for 0.07oz – Price per Ounce: $257.14
Julep Trio: $32 / 3 = $11 each for 0.07oz – Price per Ounce: $157.14
MAC Lipstick: $21 for 0.1oz – Price per Ounce: $210.00
Bite Beauty: $30 for 0.15oz – Price per Ounce: $200.00
Maybelline: $9.99 for 0.15oz – Price per Ounce: $66.60
So… basically they are saying these are worth more than MAC and Bite lipsticks – which should mean that these are extremely creamy and hydrating and don’t tug on your lips when you apply them… which Maybelline accomplishes wonderfully at their far less expensive price point. However; I found every one of these tugged and pulled at my lips while applying (I also couldn’t get the bullets to stay up without holding them…), they felt instantly drying, and they stained my lips after only having them on long enough to take the photos. It’s really unfortunate because the shades are really fun, but I don’t think they’ll ever touch my lips again.
