My second Birchbox arrived a couple weeks ago and while I wasn’t super excited about last month… I had the complete opposite reaction this time. If you aren’t familiar with Birchbox, it’s a monthly beauty subscription that always includes five personalized beauty samples from across categories (hair, makeup, skincare, body) for only $10.00 + $4.95 S&H (CDN).
Approximate value: $41.00
An edgeless, non-disposable, high-definition cosmetic sponge applicator.
I love love love beautyblenders and have at least one on my vanity at all times. It’s one of my favorite ways to apply foundation. If you’ve never used one before; you wet the sponge completely (it will double in size), ring out the extra moisture and then apply your foundation or concealer by bouncing the sponge all over your face to blend it in. It’s quick and looks fantastic. The only pain is washing it – but the solid beautyblender cleanser makes it a lot easier!
Harvey Prince Imperial Gardenia
Harvey Prince has distilled the essence of Gardenia to prove that you can be as exquisite as a flower in full bloom.
I found this to be a bit overpowering to wear, which may be because it’s an EDP (eau de parfum) and I typically wear EDT (eau de toilette) – it’s like concentrated gardenias. I did spray some in my linen closet and opening the door later that day was really nice, so I think that’s how I’ll use the rest of the sample.
ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick in Peony
I was really surprised when I first applied this. I honestly expected it to catch and pull when I put it on, but it was quite smooth. I’m not really sold on the colour, but I trying to be more adventurous with my lipstick so I will try to work it in!
Number 4™ Hydrating Shampoo
Whether your hair is over-processed and brittle, or just chronically dry, this is the shampoo for you. The satiny formula is gentle enough to use every day and helps to soften and hydrate strands with natural essential oils and extracts. Free of parabens and sulfates, it foams into a rich lather that leaves hair soft and shiny.
I haven’t tried this yet as my hair isn’t dry or brittle right now. The cost is pretty insane though ($82 for 25 oz)
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream)
Take a peek in any makeup artist’s kit and you’ll spy a well-loved tube of Embryolisse’s cult Lait-Crème Concentre. Since we’re just as picky as the pros, you’d better believe we’re fans too. This velvety moisturizer gives skin the ultimate silky finish, thanks to generous amounts of soothing shea butter and aloe vera. Plus, it doubles as a makeup remover, post-shave soother, and all-over body lotion. Who says beauty isn’t practical?
I haven’t tried this either, because it’s basically a 1x use product which isn’t enough for me to form a decent opinion. Instead for now it is in my samples stockpile.
TL;DR – 2 thumbs up for this Birchbox, I would have been happy if the only thing it contained was the beautyblender. The rest was a bonus! I cannot wait to see what comes next month!
