I wanted to start a series where I talk about my favourite items… and thought I’d start easy with my favourite blending brushes! They are something I use every single day and they have upped my eyeshadow game tremendously. The three that I use for pretty much every single look are: MAC 217, Bdellium Tools 783, and the Sephora Super Soft Fluffy Blending Brush (it doesn’t have a number and came with a set that is no longer available… sorry!)
First up: MAC 217 – $30.00 CAD
For the shading or blending of powdery or creamy products. This brush has luxuriously soft, densely packed fibres that are arranged in an oval shape. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature wood handles and nickel-plated brass ferrules.
This is my newest addition and I use it for applying and blending. The oval shape is perfect because I can use it to apply shadow in my crease, and then I turn it 90° and blend. It is extremely soft… I’ve had it for about a month and wash it every couple days and have experienced no shedding at all. I had originally looked at getting the Ellie Goulding LE version of this brush, but then found out that the LE brushes are put together by machine and the quality isn’t as good as the standard versions which are put together by hand. Good to know for any future MAC brush purchases!
Up next: Bdellium Tools 783 – $9.00 USD
No matter what your eye shape, look no further for a beautiful brush that makes your eyes pop. This brush applies shadow from the outer corner of the eye to the inner corner. This brush is made of a soft synthetic fibers.
I bought this as part of a 5 piece purple bamboo set as it isn’t available individually. I love the bamboo handle and the synthetic fibers are so ridiculously soft! I use this clean to blend out my edges and occasionally to apply a bit more product to the outer corner of my eye. I wash this once a week and have had it for about a year, zero shedding!
Last: the first real blending brush I’ve ever owned… my Sephora Super Soft Fluffy Blending Brush
I bought this with my first real set of brushes a couple of years ago. I don’t use it as much as I used to, but it’s still my go-to for when I need a really soft touch to blend out edges… and sometimes even use it to apply highlighter on my cheekbones. I wash this weekly and have experienced very minimal shedding.
