I’ve said it before, but I love a good face mask. I don’t have the time or money to go to a spa regularly (or at all really), so I love finding products that give me a bit of that same relaxing feeling in the comfort of my own home. I wrote awhile ago about my current favourite hydrating mask which is also by The Body Shop (the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask), but I also need to exfoliate regularly so I was excited to try their Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask.
Refine and revive your skin with our Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. Inspired by Ayurvedic traditions, this 100% vegan tingling charcoal clay mask is infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil. This invigorating charcoal face mask draws out impurities and refines the appearance of pores for healthy-looking skin with a glow that shows.

This mask can be used 2-3x per week for 5-10 minutes. I find twice a week to be sufficient, so I’ll usually use it Sundays and Thursdays. I like to apply it with my MAC 190 foundation brush, but The Body Shop also sells a less expensive Facial Mask Brush. You can apply this with your fingers as well, but I find applying with a brush makes it feel more spa-like and luxurious and then you don’t have to get the mask off of your hands.
It smells like green tea, and has an instant cooling/tingling sensation once it’s applied. I didn’t find the tingling too intense, but some reviews have said that it was for them. It dries quite quickly, and as you can see in the photos below if you put it on too thick in spots it won’t set in the 10 minutes you have the mask on. To remove the mask you rinse with warm water using circular motions to exfoliate. I usually have some specks of green tea stuck to my face after the rest of the mask has been removed, so I just take a soft washcloth and gently wipe to get rid of them.
For about 40 minutes after rinsing my face I have a bit of redness, but it leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft. I find my foundation goes on easier, and even though it’s been -30 this week… no dry patches! Between this and the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask, my face mask needs are pretty much covered! This mask is 100% vegan and is only $28.00 for 75 ml. If you are looking for a purifying/exfoliating mask you should definitely give this one a try!
