Hard to believe that summer is almost over, I feel like it just started. (Seriously haven’t even unpacked Bobby’s backpack from last year yet and we have to do back to school shopping tomorrow!)
We spent the last two weekends up at my in-law’s cottage in Slave Lake; the long weekend with them and this past weekend just the four of us. Both weekends were absolutely wonderful, and while we have a ton of stuff around the house to catch up on it was totally worth it.
We made it down to the beach three times during the long weekend. The first time was just to take the dogs for a walk but the kids didn’t hesitate to join them in the water. Cordelia loved walking all over the beach with the walking stick their Papa made for Bobby a few years ago, and the only way we convinced them to get out of the water was by promising we’d be back later!
After lunch we went back down to the beach. Grandma showed the kids how to float and they spent the next two hours taking turns playing lifeguard, floating, and building (and destroying) sandcastles.
Then it was back to the cottage for a good old-fashioned rubbermaid tub bath, dinner, and a campfire. We went to the beach again on Sunday but there was an algal bloom and with how much lake water Cordelia drank the day before we had to call it. Instead we went back to the cottage and the boys practiced their archery while my little flower child played in the trees.
Unfortunately when we went up this past weekend there were signs on the beach saying there had been reports of swimmers itch. So we spent a bit of time just hanging out by the water, the kids threw in some rocks and sticks, and then we went back to the cottage to play board games and watch Boss Baby. It was so relaxing and it’s the perfect place to disconnect and just enjoy some family time. Already looking forward to the next time we are able to go up ♥.
