Weight Loss Wednesday #1

wlw1bHappy Wednesday everyone! This is my very first post of my new series: Weight Loss Wednesday’s (or WLW). And for my first post I thought it would be fitting to give a bit of a background on my weight, and what my goals are.

Most of my life I was a healthy weight, curvy but far from overweight. Then I met my husband… I think I put on 25lbs within the first 3 years of us being together… Yikes right? Then I managed to lose a bit of it… And a few years later I got pregnant with my son – during that pregnancy I gained 70lbs, losing 40 almost instantly… The other 30 not so much. With my daughter I gained 30, and lost 20 pretty quick… and that’s where I am now. For those keeping track I am now 65lbs over my ideal weight… And it’s because I’m lazy.

Before going back to work I was exercising regularly, eating well and drinking a ton of water… But since returning to work I have *adopted* a life of convenience… Fast food in the truck on the way to work in the morning, fast food in the truck on the way to taking bobby to school at lunch, fast food on the way home from taekwondo… And I don’t take the time to exercise in the evening – choosing instead to watch tv… And instead of burning calories… I consume more.

• 65lbs overweight
• BMI of 34.7 (Obese)

My goals…
• 65lbs obviously is what I want gone
• I am aiming for 1.5 lbs a week – knowing that I will probably drop a few quickly, and then it may take a bit to start seeing regular loss
• I will be re-implementing my reward system – with a strict no buy in place until I reach a milestone (10lbs)
• Water water and more water

• Slow and steady – I’m going to implement small changes every week, and I’m also going to exercise a minimum of 30 minutes every day. I know I have the time, I just have to make it happen.
• I am going to track my calorie intake using My Fitness Pal, and my water with Waterlogged.
• My weekly updates will include how I’m doing, what my challenges have been… my successes and when I stumble.

My first small step
I am going to stop drinking my calories, except for my daily Starbucks Maple Macchiato.. because mama needs her coffee. I estimate this alone will cut down 200 – 300 calories a day, or 1400 – 2100 a week while also encouraging me to drink more water!a-year-from-nowIf anyone out there is starting their journey, or in the middle of it… I’d love to put together a private Facebook group or something so we can get through this together. No quick fixes, crash diets, or product sales… just straight up support and motivation to eat better and exercise.

What’s your favorite healthy snack?

  1. Although I didn’t have the children, my story is not dissimilar. when I started playing World of Warcraft, I gained a ton of weight. (Also at the 34 BMI marker – I was 196 pounds.) About three years ago I started taking the weight off (quiting WoW certainly helped) and at one point I managed to lose 50 pounds. I’m back up another 10 now and working to get it off. (Loooove My Fitness Pal!) And I definitely still “qualify” as overweight in terms of BMI.

My largest issue definitely involves alcohol. I exercise quite regularly, but I seem to be quite capable of destroying any loss I’ve accomplished all week by drinking wine on the weekends. 🙁

I’m going to be here rooting for you at every turn missy! It sounds like you’ve got a solid plan in place and I’m excited to see how you progress.

    1. Thank you Chelle!! Did you see that article that said a glass of red wine is equal to 1 hour at the gym? It’s total BS but wouldn’t that be great if it was true…

WoW was us too – our evenings were playing and eating junk together until 3AM… I wouldn’t change it for the world, great times – but I do wish we had exercised a bit first!

I’m here to cheer you on too! losing 50 lbs is beyond amazing and you look fantastic!

  2. AMAZING! I can’t wait to follow your progress. I’m on MFP too (username jjjewels) but I have stopped tracking. My big health change this year was getting a personal trainer. It has made a HUGE difference!

    1. Thank you so much Julie! A personal trainer would be amazing – how often do you meet with them? I track for a few weeks and then completely forget… and then lose accountability – are you able to stay within your calorie goals without it now?

  3. I like your approach. It’s very similar to how I’ve been approaching weightless and health.

Focusing on small changes and trying to make as many additions (ie drink water, ear red/orange veggies) as subtraction, I managed to lose 20lbs in 4 months.

But I’ve regressed a bit, starting to drink caloried drinks again, etc. So, I’ve plateaud for the past 4 months. Having someone to be accountable to would be a help.

    1. WOW!! That’s amazing Kathleen. Congratulations! Please feel free to send me an email (Rebekah@lipstickandlullabies.ca) and I will set up a facebook group so we can all help each other reach our goals 🙂

  4. I’d love to be part of a group of encouraging women. I’m quite overweight too, 36.9 BMI and my weight loss goal is 75lbs.

My first step needs to be more water and less pop.

    1. Please send me an email M.G (Rebekah@lipstickandlullabies.ca) and I’ll get the group set up. We can do this 🙂 (drinking my water and dreaming of a coke right now)

  5. Kudos to you for starting your journey! I started Whole30 on January 2, and so for I’m down 31 pounds. I’ve just incorporated exercise by taking a spin class (which just finished), and now I’m enrolled in 30 Minute Hit. The app, The Berry, has “Daily Motivation” every morning and it’s gotten me through my rough days. Whole30 isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. We can’t out-exercise a bad diet. I’ve never felt more amazing! I shared my journey so far on my blog under My Fitness Journey

    1. I don’t know how I missed your comment Nicole – I apologize. that’s awesome that you are down 31lbs!! I will be downloading that app right now and checking out your journey so far ♥

      1. I totally wasn’t sure if this comment went through last time, so I commented on your latest post (#5) haha oops! But I’m serious, Daily motivation AND Whole30 has changed my life.

  6. Just last week I decided to cut as many processed foods from my diet as I can. Due to health problems and my body hating me (hehe) I have gained 30 lbs. not okay at all! I am not able to work out so i’m really hoping that eating tons better and drinking a pool-full of water each day will start the loss for me! Look forward to the weekly reminders that I can do this! =)

    1. I’m so sorry I missed your comment Laura – You can do this!! Good for you for cutting down on processed foods and increasing your water intake!
